Horn-rimmed glasses originated in Europe in the 1800s. They are made of horn, tortoise shell, or plastic that simulates either material. Nowadays, with the improvement of technique, many eyeglasses frame are made of plastic.

Some of horn-rimmed glasses also made of plastic that looks like horn. So horn-rimmed glasses in today are no longer made from those natural materials which are not only impossible to get and will cause serious damages to the environment while processing. Although many horn-rimmed glasses in the market are mainly made from plastic and other similar materials, they are cheap and energy-saving.

Horn- rimmed glasses today can be made very nice that to meet different people’s needs. They lack of nose pads. This differs from other kinds of glasses. Horn-rimmed glasses can be categorized into some of the most typical and stylish classic eyeglasses in the industry.

The style was popularized and endured, even through periods where the heavy “in-your-face” rims were considered unfashionable. Alongside the fact that they had become a staple part of the stereotypical geek image, this launched the now prevalent geek-chic fashion. Especially, iconic American silent movie comedian, Harold Lloyd, might have been the first to popularize black horn-rimmed glasses.

Different people like different types of eyeglasses frames. And horn-rimmed glasses always remind us the past days.
